A week in the beautiful Cevennes mountains in the south of France to quicken the heart, fire the imagination, enliven the senses and re-tune our sense of connectedness to the rest of the natural world. Through lively discussion, shared silence, slow walking, time outdoors, mindfulness exercises and creative prompts we’ll find new ways of being in and writing poems from each moment – effortlessly.
Led by poet Roselle Angwin, this retreat will bring together a friendly group of poets for a deepening of your sense of connectedness, a great deal of sometimes surprising writing (prose & poetry), a slowing down, some play, a lot of laughter, and an opening of your imagination and your heart. This retreat will focus on developing our writing at the same time as deepening our sense of relationship to the world around us.
In addition to creative and reflective writing on various topics we’ll also be thinking and talking about so-called ’nature writing’ and our place in the web of life. We’ll explore all this through stimulating writing tasks and gentle prompts, as well as through shared words and readings, and time to simply be in the natural world (including, if you’d like, time to immerse yourself in the waterfall pool!). Each afternoon there will be an optional reading-back session.
At Abri Creative Writing – part of Gardoussel Retreat – we have our own private river swimming spot, several garden spaces with tables and chairs for writing, as well as hammocks, a fire pit, and new for 2017 a new rotunda lounge. There’s also the option of a market trip.
All our writing holidays are full-board and guests are accommodated in single rooms when possible (doubles and twins also available). Meals are delicious, home-made and vegetarian – mostly organic – with local wine on tap.
