Poetry London Workshop with Matthew Dickman
Poetry London is pleased to announce a one-off weekend workshop with American poet Matthew Dickman on 24–25 September.
The American poet, Larry Levis, once said of writing poetry “Out here I can say anything”. Over the two days of our workshop we will be exploring the freedom of poetry, of “saying” anything we want to say. We will be producing new poems and exploring radical ways of revising old poems. This workshop will be an inquiry into the wild nature of poetry, of our own souls, and less a kind of workshop where we simply “fix” or “praise” our poems. We will be discussing our poems as we write them, looking at some poems by poets such as Marie Howe and Dorothea Lasky in order to explore other poets’ use of freedom, and shedding some of our old rules and values in regards to this magical, weird, wild thing called poetry.
TIME: 10am – 4pm each day
LOCATION: The Poetry School, 81 Lambeth Walk, London SE11 6DX
