The McLellan Poetry Prize 2018

Details: for a poem in English on any subject, maximum 80 lines

Battered Moons Poetry Competition 2018

The ninth Battered Moons Poetry Competition is open to all UK residents aged 18 or over and accepts poems on any topic and style of up to 40 lines. Guest judge Jacob Sam La-Rose and Cristina Navazo-Eguía Newton will both read all the poems.

The 3 winners and 4 commended poets are invited to read their poems at the Poetry Swindon Festival on Saturday 6th October 2018, when Jacob Sam La-Rose will present the prizes and read from his own work. Winning and commended poems will appear in the Battered Moons pamphlet and website.

First prize, £700; second, £200; third, £100, plus four commendations of £25 each. Entry fee: £5 for the first poem and £3.5 thereafter. May 2018. On-line and postal entries accepted.

Grey Hen Poetry Competition 2018

For women over 60 only. Those who will reach 60 before the end of June 2018 are eligible. Poems should be up to 40 lines, on any theme, previously unpublished, and not accepted for future publication. All entries should be typed and on A4 paper, and accompanied by an official entry form. Manuscripts cannot be returned, so please keep a copy. If you wish an acknowledgement, please enclose sae marked ‘receipt’ with your entry. Poems to be listed on entry form, together with contact details. No personal details on poem page/s please. No email submission. Poems (2 copies of each please or your entry will be disqualified) accepted by post only, and sent to: Competition 2018, Grey Hen Press, PO Box 269, Kendal, Cumbria, LA9 9FE.

MARCH 2018

The Caterpillar Poetry Prize 2018

€1,000 for the best poem written by an adult for children aged 7–11. Judged by Chrissie Gittins. The winning poem will appear in the summer issue of The Caterpillar. Anyone over 16 can enter, as long as the poem is previously unpublished.

Brittle Star Competition

Brittle Star magazine’s third open poetry and short story competition for poems and stories in English. Judges: Pascal Petit (poetry), Nicholas Royle (stories) and Brittle Star editor Jacqueline Gabbitas. Prizes in each genre: 1st £250, 2nd £50, 3rd £25.

Entry: £5 for 1st entry then £3.50 subsequent entries. Brittle Star subscribers get second entry free.

Poets & Players Poetry Competition 2018

We are pleased to announce the 6th poetry competition run by Poets and Players, one of Manchester’s leading organisers of poetry and music events. OUR JUDGE FOR 2018 WILL BE PASCALE PETIT 1st Prize: £600 2nd Prize: £200 3rd Prize: £100 Commended poets at the judge’s discretion. Winners will be informed by Friday 12th April 2018 and will be invited to read alongside Pascale Petit at the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester where they will also receive their prize.

Tree2mydoor’s 10th Annual Valentines Day Poetry Competition 2018

Theme: Love, Valentines Day, Trees, Plants, Gardening

The poem submitted must be your own and unpublished anywhere else. Entrants must be 16 and over. Your poem may be published on the tree2mydoor.com website or on associated print literature. The final judgment winner will be made by the Tree2mydoor staff. Type poem (150-word limit) or video yourself reading the poem (1-minute limit) and email to hello@tree2mydoor.com with the subject of your name followed by the word poem. (e.g. John Smith’s Poem)

Geoff Stevens Memorial Poetry Prize

Two winners will have a poetry collection up to 52 pages published by award-winning publishers Indigo Dreams Publishing and receive 20 copies.
Submission: Selection of 10 poems to 36 lines max.

The Kent and Sussex Poetry Society Open Competition

Open Poetry Competition – £1000 first prize

This competition is open to anyone aged 16 or over. There is a First prize of £1000, a second prize of £300, a third prize of £100 and four fourth prizes of £50 each. In addition, all prize winners will be published in our Annual Folio.

Poems should be in English, unpublished, (online or in print), and not accepted for publication elsewhere. Poems may be on any subject, and in any style, but no longer than 40 lines.
